Well, it’s almost November already. Linda and I transitioned from Bonita, and we are back in Chandler for the fall/winter season. And, believe it or not, in the span of two days, I built up the Vegepod, filled it with the best soil, and already have lettuce and spinach growing in it. And our first batch of sprouts was part of dinner on Sunday.
Because of packing, moving, and getting Chandler to hang in for the next few months, I didn’t have time to edit much. So this issue is thirty hand-picked images from the archive.
I am a very lucky guy. Sometimes I just sit back in my chair at my computer and watch the screen saver. Every five seconds another image pops up, and I see if I can remember the model’s name. I’m still doing pretty well. And just before I get too proud of myself, a beautiful image comes up that I don’t recognize at all. It’s like, “Damn, that’s cool!!” and I quickly check whether my logo is on it, just in case. There it is! I’m happy and sad when that happens because I’m proud I created it, and sad I don’t remember doing it. But at 74 (next week), and after 16 years, I’m not sure even a 30-year-old me would remember almost 11k finished images much better.
And now for a little light ranting….
I doubt a single follower on so-so media noticed I have cut way back on my posts. I used to post at least once a day. Now it might be 2 or 3 days between posts. I still love sharing my art. I just don’t like what so-so media has become. Not that it was ever a gleaming monument to human civilization. Hell, Facebook was built by Suckerberg as a website for college guys to rate co-eds. Talk about scope creep with an emphasis on creep.
Now Meta has bundled FB, IG, and some other things I haven't heard of before, so the overlord (AI bots) can punish anyone across the board, not just one platform at a time. I've never liked giving a company content so they can monetize it with ads. As a photographer, I’ve had a dozen or so pictorials published in various magazines. There was never payment, other than the elusive ‘exposure’ carrot. Some magazines had the cahoonies to actually charge the talent to have their images in their rag. More than once I was quoted prices near $50 if I wanted a copy of the magazine I provided images for. Not all that surprising; they are all but gone.
As always, feel free to comment, ask questions, or make suggestions. I’m at ai7r@mac.com
