This week in the life…

Greetings!

Well, it’s been a fun week up here at Bonita. Although, we did make a quick trip to the valley today because I was going blind trying to edit on a 16” monitor. So, I now have a nice 32” curved Samsung monitor and it’s pretty impressive. But, I feel like I just got progressive glasses and I have to learn that square things aren’t round even though they look that way. Now I’m seeing the monitor and my mind says it should be flat and it’s not. It’ll take a while I’m sure. Meanwhile, the size and brilliance of the images is astounding.

Some of this week’s images are older ones I stumbled across and thought they were special enough to share. Some are new edits from past shoots. There’a a couple new ones of Lisa in there, and the one on the right is when Marcela and I tripped over to an amazing studio in Orlando for 5 days. What an amazing experience. Poor Marcella though…stuck with a grandpa in a studio (or, in this case a penthouse on the 30th floor) and not her boy friend in a different state for almost a week.

And I slipped one before and after in the bunch. Mostly because of the striking difference.

Lately I’ve been giving a lot of thought about model/photographer relationships. Mine anyways. Some are as brief as a single shoot over an hour or two. Some are many shoots spread over years. As you can imagine, shooting someone year after year they become good friends. Im my case, Linda and I consider some as adopted family. Lots of hugs, laughs, and stories are shared. Last November I passed my ten year mark and I look back over the vast number of people who have come into my life, some briefly, some longer, many still. I’ve watched some get married, some move away, some have babies, even a couple become grand mothers.

It is heart warming to me that I might have touched their lives in some positive way. Shown them just how beautiful they are. Give them at least a little shred of self confidence they might need that moment. I can hope. Some I miss. Some I am looking forward to seeing again soon. And some I haven’t met yet. When someone asks me why I took up photography, I usually give them a photography answer. Like, “For the first time in my life, when I have a camera in my hand, a woman will do everything I ask her to.” But really, deep down, it’s being a small part of someone’s life and trying to make a little difference. That’s what life is about, especially when you have spent your own life raising kids and making a living. At my age, giving back is all there is. I’m so grateful for each and every person I’ve worked with, from models, to makeup and hair professionals, to stylists of every kind from body painting to balloon fashion. I love you all.
