This week in the life…

Greetings!!

I hope you all are staying safe and winning the struggle to stay happy. I’m just pretending we are on an 8 month flight to another planet. It takes the edge off. (grin)

I have been loving my 24” screen/tablet. I’ve certainly spent more time editing because there has been a lot more in the way of new edits over the last month with these new screens. It’s fun. And my buddy Colby just got his, so it remains to be seen if he loves it or my name is used in vain more than usual.

I think that drawing directly to the image has changed my style at least a little. There seems to be more contrast and dream like looks to the finished mages. Could just be me. Everything is fairly subtle when changes happen to an artistic style. I am finding that I’m having more fun playing with light after the fact, like adding light where it wasn’t before. The image on the right is a good example. There wasn’t much light on her face in the shot and by putting a simple line of it on her face looks natural and still leaves some mystery there. And enhancing her legs with lines of light is always fun.

This week there are more from my shoot with Elley at Barry’s horse ranch and the rocks in Skull Valley. What an amazing trip. I started missing it as I got in my truck to come home. And I mixed some studio shots of Elley too, just to thicken the gravy some.

So, I said there would be a video in this week’s Museletter and yep, there is a 17 minute video of Ariana, Linda, and I with behind the scenes of our shoot a couple weeks ago. Linda did a pretty good job with the iPhone to capture the goings on, especially since I forgot to bring the DJI stabilizer. I left in the background banter and beeps, and I added some commentary to explain my thinking as we shot, and mixed in are some finished shots to show what we created from the situations we were shooting in. I think it give a pretty good feel for what a shoot is like. Typically we have music playing. Other than that, it’s about as boring as it looks. I do enjoy the banter and teasing. It took me a few years to not be stressed that we got something good from the shoot. There are always a few winners in the bunch. I expect a commercial shoot would have 50 people doing union work to make everything perfect for that one shot. That’s a job, this is art for the fun of it. I rented that house for 4 hours and it was sanitized before we got there and you’ll see I have a mask on the whole time. Not fun, but important. And no one got sick.

I hope to have another video ready for the next Museletter…no promises. Linda and I have started a new eating and workout routine and it seems to have cut our days in half. But we just might not come out of this thing looking like Macy’s Parade Balloons. Three miles a day and breakfast at noon may help.

You all stay safe and enjoy the art.

Dave
