The goal

The goal

Getting all artsy

WARNING: a bit of nudity in this session

Needed: The Smoke and Lightning brushes from the bottom of the home page. Link is there….go grab the brushes and install them and if you haven’t loaded the action I have there for Dodge and Burn, go for it!

In this session we will use a combination of a candle/flame image, add a woman’s body, and then mask it with some smoke to make her look like she’s part of the smoke. I’ve done this a BUNCH of times and each one comes out very differently. It’s actually pretty easy to do.

The goal here isn’t to get an image exactly like this one. Play and try other angles and combinations. As always, you are learning this tools and techniques to build on your own style.

The underlying goal here is to get you to consider the creative thought process that went into it. The best part of photography, in my opinion is the avenues of creativity that it opens up for me. I can do what everyone else has done or I can take a right turn and head off in my own direction. It doesn’t always work, but it usually does. And it’s not always wonderful results, but sometimes it is. And it’s all worth it for those times.

Enjoy!

And remember, the image is not for distribution. Just for your practice.
