For the last two years, in the spring, I’ve opened a class to ten photographers to come and learn while they enjoyed working with a fantastic model and getting some outstanding work for their portfolio. May 11th, 2024, will be our third annual session. And if it is like the last two, it will fill quickly. I was a little shocked last year when most of the people at the first one came to have more fun the second year. Then again, I wasn’t surprised. It was a BLAST!!

You have a fantastic home in Mesa to shoot in, and we have the incomparable Elley Cat as our model. Even though she can pose like a well-oiled machine, she can also take direction. If that is an area you want to hone your skills in, she’ll help you learn to communicate by taking your direction.

This year, we will use natural light and include a single strobe in the equation for several sets. Each set typically runs for about 20 minutes, and then we switch it up. Unlike the common ‘group shoots,’ this is well-directed and focused on teaching you not only what we are doing in that set but also why and what mindset one needs to get the most out of it.

While the shooting is going on, I’ll be explaining things about the set, pointing out why it was set up like it is, what angles to look for, and options to consider. A significant takeaway from those five hours will be how to show up at a location and get the most from the time you have.

FIVE HOURS plus a Zoom class on editing the next day!

Then, the next day, the 12th, we’ll have a Zoom class you can attend, where I’ll go over how you can edit several of the sets we shot. I hold another back in either class. There are no secrets. The goal is to open your mind to possibilities and options you may not have considered. I want to help you with a mindset going into a shoot that gets you the most art for the time you spend shooting and editing it.

The Zoom class will be recorded and available for later reference and for those who may not be able to attend.

When and how do I sign up?!?

Save the date: May 11th, 2024

Classes start at 10 a.m. The shooting class lasts until 3 p.m., and the Zoom class typically lasts 1 to 2 hours, depending on the questions.

The cost is $300. That covers the rental price, the model, and the instructor. There are no additional fees. Tipping the model is not expected, but as you can imagine, it is appreciated.
