Greetings,

Welcome to issue 202.

I hope this dollop of art finds you and your family well. Linda and I had a fun Thanksgiving with family and friends. Very relaxing indeed.

I had a couple of shoots in the past week. The edits are here, and a good number of new edits from older work. It’s not like I don’t have a few to choose from, with 684 shoots currently on the 24TB raid drive. Those shoots take up 20TB of that space. That’s a couple of pictures.

It seems odd, but not for this time of year, that I have nothing on the calendar for future shoots. Other than a senior picture session on Friday. Before the pandemic and three more years on these old bones, I would have been anxious not having shoots booked. But I am happy and calm, and I’m feeling some change in the wind.

I feel my focus in the coming years will be more on teaching and studio rental. And creating those picture/art books, I’ve been talking about. And, of course, editing. If I miss editing on a day, I can feel it. I need that creative outlet. I’ll undoubtedly shoot, but those sessions will be limited to a few that I know will give me the art I want. I have to learn to go into each shoot with a plan. Not so structured that it isn’t fun, but enough that I know good art will happen. (it always does, actually, but a bit more focused)

I keep returning to some models I loved working with, most with over five shoots, to edit more images. Many don’t model any longer and have moved on to other chapters of their lives. I miss them, but I can still create with them, even when they aren’t here. That’s pretty cool if you think about it.

One such young lady is Marcela. She’s sitting on the steps to the right. She’s super sweet, and her look is in the twilight between innocent youth beauty and the beauty of experience. A couple of the shots of her here are new edits. And a few mixed in from past shoots.

I’ve added a few before and after shots in this gallery. It is a bit like showing how the rabbit got into that magician’s hat, but it’s all fun. The goldfish in the shoes was a decision I made as soon as the lady took those shoes out of the box. And a warm thank you to those who asked if they were real.

Until next week…

Stay excellent, happy, healthy, and curious my friends!

Dave
