Greetings,

Happy Wednesday. It has been a good reference point for this old man to have something on each week so I know where I am in the week and month. Being oblivious has some advantages but I worry about living that way and waking up one morning so old I have a walker without stopping once in a while to cherish the time I just spent, at least once a week. Thank you for sharing that bus stop.

I’ve been doing a lot of editing this last week and most of it is on Patreon since that’s the new workflow. It’s nice to have some people supporting me there. Although, editing is very rewarding in itself.

Speaking of editing, I guess I’ve been doing that now in some form or another since 2010 and I still love doing it. Typically someone will get tired of something like that after about 7 years on average. I think the reasons I still love it are manyfold. Different models add variety to the shapes. Skills have evolved over time. Heck, I don’t think I do anything like I did when I started. And it is creating art and I expect I will always love the whole ‘creating’ part of it.

And teaching it makes it fun for me. Sharing what I’ve learned has always been a true pleasure. And then seeing people adapt what they have learned in images they share with me is a thrill.

This week’s gallery co-features two models. In both cases, I didn’t shoot with them often enough for a full issue since I try to give you close to 30 images to view each week. So, this week it is Sonia and Taryn who shared their beauty with my camera and me.

Both are exceedingly beautiful with one who has seen more life than the other. Being a photographer who shoots beauty, I have given much thought to what beauty is. I believe it is important to know why something is beautiful in order to capture that beauty. I work with models of different ages and have loved what I’ve seen and learned about their beauty. Of course, there are different ethnicities that are interesting too. Like how the skin is a focus point for dark skin and eyes might be for lighter skin. Or it’s the hair, blonde, redhead, or brunette that makes the image special. Or simply something special about the eyes that make it work.

When it comes to age, I’ve found there are generally two types of beauty that come into play. Both are striking in their own way. With someone who has been through life with a lot of experience, I see more confidence in their face and manner. They have often come to love their little flaws so they are proud of what they have and have become. That attitude tends to show through in the art.

And there are the younger ladies, all over 18 because of the content I typically create of course. And by that age, most young women have figured out they are beautiful. In many cases, they don’t know exactly why, and they all have flaws that they are self-conscious about. They are still trying to find their way and aren’t sure about their future. I think I just described every young person. Their beauty comes from the look of hope and expectation. And a little fear of the unknown. A bit like finding their way in the darkness just before dawn.

Both are beautiful in their own way. Neither being better, just different. It is a progression. Learning to fly and then earning one’s wings.

No real geeky stuff to pass out today. My radios here in Chandler are working better than they have in years because I actively solved much of my noise problems. For you techies, my noise was over S9 on 80 and 40 and now I’m down to S5 and S3 respectively.

And in the studio, I have a new motorized paper roll holder. I can have four colors of paper for backdrops and now, instead of cranking a chain on the wall and struggling to get one of three colors down, I can simply press a button, and the color I chose comes down just as smooth as can be. Well, once I install it on the 12’ ceiling…oh fun! I’m going to ask my son to help me with this one. I need someone who can rush me to emergancy. ;)

Until next week. Stay warm, dry, happy, and healthy. Please!

Dave
