Greetings,

Happy Wednesday to you all!

It has been a very special week so far. Elley has spent three days here and the first day we went rock hounding for her “Elley Knows Rocks” blog presence and we had a LOT of fun. We went to Diamond Point, just down the dirt road about 1537 bumps or so, and found some wonderful crystals, a few actually terminated. I even found a few. We went searching for a cave we know is there, but it certainly evaded our discovery. But the search was fun.

We then came back to Bonita just in time to meet the county inspector who proceeded to look over our solar installation. She found it in great shape with all of the proper tags and grounds. So we have a green tag for APS to put in meters and get the system online. With power being a problem in Arizona and more and more other states, we are happy to go renewable and possibly even feed some energy back to the grid for our neighbors.

Then, off we scampered to show Elley and her followers the Indian Guardens Civilian Conservation Corps camp from the depression days, May 1933 to be exact. I’ve been there many times but we spent hours there and I found areas I’d missed previously. It was a pretty big place and we are happy they did what they did because most of our roads and trails up here came from their efforts. Elley brought her metal detector and we found some fun stuff, and several hundred nails. Our best find was a US Army button in perfect condition.

Back in 2016 Linda and I placed a Geochach there to expose people to the CCC camps and what they were about. We checked out the ammo box with all the trinkets and the log book and found it packed full of each trinkets and a very full log book. Some hunt group had found it just the day prior. Cachers are the kind of people who love to explore and will leave things as they are for the next visitors. And likely haul out any trash if they have the room.

As promised, this issue features Elley Cat. She just happens to be up here this week. We planned that on the weekend so no relation to the fact. The BTS video is also Elley modeling in a recent class I gave in Mesa at the awesome home I love to shoot at. The video shows the outdoor shower just to give an example of coolness.

Yesterday we hiked up the creek to shoot a concept I had in mind. As well as to freeze her butt at the falls. At least it is green up here again and still more than cool enough to get some nice hikes in without sweating. We shall see what magic we captured.

On Thursday Colby Files is coming up with a model to shoot in and around Bonita Creek for the day. That should be great fun. He is an amazing artist and great friend.

Then, starting Friday, we will be down in Chandler for a week of teaching classes and shooting as well as some previously covered radio geekiness. I’m sure we will miss having the windows open all day and night as we do up here at Bonita.

It has been a wonderful week up here and ample activity with some wonderful people in store, so I’m a pretty happy camper.

On the geek front, I’m enjoying the new ‘Strange New Worlds’ Star Trek series. They got back to basics with episodic shows and special effects that are over the top. Mix in a little campiness that the original show had, but far more character interaction, and it is fun. It’s not always about the captain.

Until next week. Stay crispy, happy, and healthy. Please!

Dave
