This week in the life…

Greetings all!

Well, it’s been an interesting, but quiet, week at Bonita. Rested up from those two weekends where we went to New Mexico and then weekend before last with Elley and Dan for 2 days shooting on location. And zooming around the desert at 132 mph. Whew! Now it’s lay low and hope the world doesn’t implode with everything going on. I wish us all luck!

Probably the coolest thing that happened this week was a whole new way for me to edit. (image below) That’s a tablet like I’ve always used, although considerably bigger, BUT…this one has a screen. So, I can bring up an image to edit and then work directly on that image. I’ve resisted this technique for years. I tried with some smaller versions and they just didn’t work for me. So I took a chance on a 22” version and I’m in love. I feel a bit more like an artist because I feel like I’m physically working on the picture directly. It was $699 and then next day they went on sale for $140 off. My luck. I emailed them the details and they refunded the difference. Great product and evidently great people behind it. For those who are interested, the one I have is the XP-PEN 22R Pro.

New toy alert!

Now I can edit directly on the image instead of using a tablet to replace a mouse and do the hand/eye coordination thing.

So, most of the edits you see this week were done using my new XP-PEN tablet. Anything that makes it even more fun than it already is to edit is good. People who know me know I have an aversion to doing anything the hard way if there is an alternative. Oh, and if you are wondering what that black thing is on my hand, that’s a partial glove (Michael Jackson would have loved one of these) that just covers the part of my hand that touches the screen. It keeps smudges off and my hand moves smoother across the screen.

In the gallery I added some random behind the scenes as well as a before and after. And a lot of the images are in color and then a B&W version. If you look close, the B&W aren’t just a non-color version of the colored one. It is often more contrastic and possibly more moody. Look close.

This week I’m scheduling some once a month Zoom sessions for the training site subscribers. So it’ll be a bit of a live training and allow people to bring their questions up from the online training they have done. It should be fun and an added value to the training site.

In this week’s gallery you’ll find a couple of my bucket list images. I’ve always wanted to shoot a lady in a water trough with her horse there. It turns out, the first one I ever saw like that was shot in that very trough. There will be a few variations of that one in the future, but I’m excited that I had the opportunity to create that. The other one is Elley on the rock with her red hair. That took some serious work to get to. I had to climb rocks I shouldn’t have, but it was worth it. That’s one place I’d love to go back to. Well, all of the places actually. (grin)

Some of you give me regular feedback and I really love hearing from you. If you saw something that moved you, or you especially loved, or just have a question about any of the images, please drop me an email. It’s the highlight of my day to hear from friends.

Enjoy!!! And stay safe.
