Greetings,

Well, we all made it to October of 2021. So far, so good. Remember when ‘normal’ sucked? And now we would enjoy it like it was the smell of fresh baked bread if we could have it back. This ‘normal’ doesn’t smell all that nice.

I’ve decided to add a new category of training to my photography/artist website. I have plenty about the tools and how to use them. The next step needs to be what mind set one needs to be in to use them. The why. Things like how I pick out what I think are the best images after a shoot. Typically I have 300-600 images and if it was a really good shoot I might edit 10. And then, when I’m working on a selected image, what thought process I use to get to the finished image. Sometimes the image is almost done without any editing and some are very different from the original when it’s finished. I’ll have some on lighting and what I’m thinking when I place lights a certain way. It should make for a nice ‘next step’ for people using my website.

And anyhow, I have a really cool new Yeti microphone so I have to put my new toys to work.

It hasn’t been a very quiet week up here at Bonita because the 3 or 4 days to paint the house is now over a week. Surprise! Lots of rainy days and the painter trying to find workers has been an issue. It’s mostly done. One more full day, with sunshine, should wrap it up. I’ll include pictures next week.

The next project is to replace the whole house generator. Not cheap, but safer for Linda and I up here if we have any long term outages. I guess I have a mild case of the ‘prepper’. I don’t have a decade’s worth of food or an 8’ gun safe. Yet. We do have some hand guns up here for protection. After all, 911 gets the sheriff up here in 45 minutes flat. Same reason I have a house full of fire extinguishers.

This week in pictures. Lately I’ve been completing more edits per week than in previous issues. It still feels good after each edit, like a drug. I am missing shoots though. There’s always a safety issue to think about. But I’ve snuck in a few here and there. Nothing like the 3 or 4 a week I was doing. I have Kileen coming from New Mexico in a few weeks to shoot up here at Bonita, then a week or so later I’m hosting a traveling model at the studio and she’g going to be shooting with a lot of different photographers. And I might get some shots with her as the model, we shall see.

The before and after image this week is interesting. See if you can see the difference. It was fun shooting with Nikki and Ziva during Bob’s class up here in the forest a few months back. I’ve had a shot with a woman and a vase on my photography bucket list for a while. I’ve done it a few times now and love the look.

Remember to drop me a line if you have questions or if you were moved by any of the images this week.

Until next week, enjoy!!! And stay safe.

Dave
