Greetings,

There is some seriously fun shoots coming up as well as a few in the last week. Some new models as well as a couple I have been looking forward to working with again for a long time. It will be a busy studio for the next couple of weeks for sure.

And I’m so glad to see it. That studio just looks wrong without music playing and flashes going off and creativity bouncing off the walls. It’s just a quiet room with wing feathers moving slightly in the draft as the only motion without humans mixing it up.

This week’s featured muse is Ashlieya. Sadly, we don’t get a chance to work together any longer. One of the best things I’ve learned is that the amazing time you had during any journey was still an amazing time when you get to the end of the journey. The laughs and creative engagement was a blast in that moment. That moment will always remain as the wonderful moment it was. New journeys await!

This week I get my first ‘royalty’ check for training videos I provided Model Society. I’m excited for many reasons. I worked for a few years creating my training site putting a lot of sweat and tears into it. It feels pretty good having the hard work continue to provide a return on that investment. I’ve never had a project that pays a royalty. I like that word.

Near the end of the month I have some training sessions happening. If I put all of the things I love to do in a pile, teaching people would be up there near the top. I have a 2 day 1on1 with a gentleman driving in from out of state and a group session on natural light in Mesa on the 30th for 5 hours. There are still a couple seats open for that class if you are a photographer. Because you are a subscriber you can get the $300 price by clicking here.

Elley Cat and I will be spending some time with her fiancé later this month on the lake, so expect some boating art. I hope we get a chance to sit down and go over the content for a couple of new art books featuring her. As I’ve said before, we have enough content for 3 or 4 books for sure. And making more all of the time.

On the geek side of things, I am diving into deep end of the amateur radio satellite part of the hobby. I have an antenna coming this week that is a large array that will point my signal and allow me to hear them crystal clear as they fly over. I have a special antenna rotator that not only points the antenna horizontally to whatever direction it needs to be, but also vertically so I can track the satellite in whatever arc across the sky it has. It is all pretty geeky and very computerized. Most of the pointing and predicting is done for me, leaving me to make as many contacts as I can as it passes by. It’s fun when the ISS flies over and comes from the south west. The first stations I hear are Southern California and Central America. Then, as it heads north east I start hearing Colorado and eventually Canada. Of course, part of the computer tracking shows the ‘foot print’ of the current coverage so I can see who I should be able to talk with.

My son, David, has become a very creative wood worker and has a very nice shop. I’m excited because he has built a special desk for me to do my computer/radio tinkering and building. It has a lot of drawers and other features specifically for easily spending hours building kits or repairing things and having everything at my fingertips. I am SO looking forward to seeing it. He’s keeping it a surprise until he brings it over and sets it up.

We went to Bonita a few days ago and hiked the creek and got some little projects done. It looks a lot like summer is starting to spend. The scrub oaks are loosing their leaves as they do in spring, and there are a few little nubs coming out of the ground where tall ferns will be standing in a few more weeks. I’m looking forward to spending the summer up there. With trips down to use the studio now and then of course.

Until next week. Stay crispy, happy, and healthy. Please!

Dave
