Greetings,

I’m writing this on the 4th of July. And we are up at Bonita Creek where it is supposed to be cool. Still gets to 95 in the middle of the day, from about 1 pm to 6 pm and then it cools down to a nice, windows open, kind of sleeping weather. This is the first year in 22 that we’ve had to use the AC for more than a few days in a row and maybe 2 or 3 times during the whole summer. I have a feeling we’ll be running it most of the summer from now on. On the bright side, can you imagine how hot it would be if climate change was real? ;)

A lot of the images this week are new edits. I’m getting into a routine up here, and editing for a few hours is a part of it. During the hottest part of the day, as you can imagine.

Many of the new ones are of Elley. She’s been left out for a bit as I had so many other shoots to edit from…and I still do. But she’s always a treat, especially since many of them are from the class we gave a few weeks back.

A good number of edits this week are from location shoots. It is always fun to escape the studio, run off, and create in the wild. One never knows how it will go. My favorite thing to do whether it is a house or some odd place, like the dunes, an abandoned building, or the shore. I try to evaluate what lighting I have that’s natural, should and how would I mix in my own light, and what’re the best angles. And I look for places to put a model that will be interesting, artistic, and that she might blend in naturally.

Elley and I are starting to plan a couple of trips. One for a very Steam Punky look at an abandoned mine, and, of course, the Dunes around October.

Meanwhile, I broke my rule and got on the roof again, and climbed to the worst possible spot to take down an antenna. We have the little trailer now, so I want the RV version of Starlink to take with us. It’s $150 a month when we go on trips, but having decent and fairly reliable internet for those trips will be nice. The cool part is that the RV version can be switched off until we need it again.

So, after getting the antenna down, we went into town for more sugar as the hummingbirds were already draining about a gallon of feed a day. And we stopped for ice cream to celebrate my surviving the roof experience.

Always look for the bright side.

Stay open-minded and curious, my friends!

Dave
