Greetings…again,
Last week I jumped the gun and announced the Museletter was halting after that issue. And it was. After a few days, I started scratching my head, wondering if I could actually have a form that would collect proof of age from subscribers. It’s not like I have tens of thousands of subscribers and don’t have the time to check and add people manually.
I found I could create a form for subscribing and uploading an ID with a picture and a selfie. I’m going to give that a try. I understand some people aren’t comfortable sharing their ID info. Hell, I stop and think when I’d asked to do that on a site. And I don’t always continue. Of course I honor everyone’s choice to trust me or not. 99% of you don’t know me from Adam. You just like to look at my art.
You can bet I was fat and happy with things the way they were. Fatter than I should be, for sure, but here we are—a world that is changing all around us, and pretty much in all the wrong ways. So art is a bit of the salve we need to soothe our sanity—an escape for just a few minutes from the news. In my own small and quiet way, I’m providing some of the art they would rather you not enjoy.
So, here we are. This will be the last issue mailed from the unverified mailing list. And you’ll see the images are relatively tame from the viewpoint of any small-minded people, or kids, viewing it. So, no password needed.
To continue to receive the Museletter, you’ll need to sign up with verification of your age. I’ve chosen to take either a driver’s license or Passport picture as well as a selfie. If you’d like to do that but not give away all of the information, I only need to see the picture and DOB. You could redact addresses or reference numbers on those documents.
The new law (Arizona HB 2112) says I need to collect the proof, verify it with my own eyes, and then destroy it. Hmmm. Do you see any problem with that? If they come after me and ask how I verified people, yet the proof was destroyed? I feel they are not allowed to tell anyone to keep data—likely another law. I will be keeping those files. HOWEVER, I will take each set of files, and after I look at them, I will save them to a thumb drive and put it in a drawer. I certainly wouldn’t want any hackers doing their thing. Getting into my secret drawer isn’t something they can do.
The decision to keep the Museltter going is somewhat selfish because an artist in a sealed room, where no one sees the art except the artist and model, defeats the purpose of art. And I’ve admitted here many times that I have a Master’s Degree in Show & Tell.
So, I’ve been open and up front about how the process will work. And for the week after this gets published, I will add the submissions to the new mailing list. And then we’ll be back on course. Please don’t wait until the last minute.
The only difference is that you’ll need to read the email to find out what that week’s password is.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns. Here’s to the freedom to express and enjoy art.
