This week in the life…

Greetings!!

Welcome to the middle of yet another week. Have you noticed how they seem to run together when you are home so often now. Here’s hoping that vaccine works as well as they are saying. Considering flu vaccine is typically in the 60-90% range based on their guess for the next season, 90% sounds great. Of course, working on the various strains would be good too. Enough of me talking about something I know nothing about.

Linda and I are in Chandler until around the 20th. Tomorrow I’m shooting on location for a few hours and again on the 20th with two models I haven’t worked with in way to long. Masks the whole time for me and plenty of hand washing as we progress. And that, my friends, will be my last shoots for 2020.

But going back over old shoots has proven very productive. In this set of work there are a lot of new ones from a shoot I did with Taryn a few years ago. (right) She did a great job and, as always, I’m finding some really nice art that I missed the first time around.

More and more often I’ve been creating some art that never makes it to social media. I just don’t like putting banners all over my art. And I have never liked the feeling that I was using censored work to draw people to my website or this Museletter. I hope that my audience is looking at the art and not just looking to see a nipple. I hope that makes sense. So, a lot of what you see here in the Museletter may be the only place it sees the light of day.

I started posting again on 500px.com. It doesn’t cost anything to view the art there, and I still think it is one of the premier places on the net to view some of the most amazing art out there. From landscapes to nudes, it’s all there. If you look at what has been considered popular you’ll see wonderful work that has already been vetted by others ‘liking’ certain images. Even with the free membership I think you can follow favorite artists. And the popular images only live in that status for 24 hours as new ‘popular’ work boils to the top. So you can visit a couple times a day and see all new art. This is my favorite site for getting inspiration.

As you all have figured out by now, I’m just a big show off. I have that Master’s Degree in Show and Tell. On 500px, just in the last 7 days, my work has been viewed 93,985 times and gotten 5,352 likes. And I have 1,388 of my images up there so you can scroll for a long time and not make it to the end. That, by the way, is about 1/5th of my finished work. So, if you ever want to benge watch my work, that would be the place. I usually put what I consider favorite work there. And I love that a majority of the people on 500px are other artists and photographers. My peers. And if THEY like my work, well, it’s an extra special treat.

And the other reason I enjoy 500px is that I get a lot of artists and photographers coming to my online classes from there. So, it does give me some spending money.

Speaking on sales. I’ve had some people ordering up prints lately and that’s awesome. I even had to buy some shipping tubes to make sure they get to the owner’s wall in perfect condition. Soooo, if you see something you’d like, send me a screen shot and we can talk about getting you a print. I don’t charge like I’m dead and famous. (grin)

You all stay safe and enjoy the art.

Dave
